Committees and Events


WELCOME BACK DAY

Held in the school gym, approximately one week before school starts.  Tables are set up for the various organizations of St. Linus.  School class lists are posted, school supply kits are ready for pick up (if previously ordered).  Families new to St. Linus are able to get answers to commonly asked questions and receive information about all that St. Linus has to offer.  Refreshments and cookies are available.  Event lasts approximately three hours.

Duties of this committee typically would include:  attend one planning meeting, assist with set-up and take-down of tables, assist with refreshment and cookie tables, help issue school supply kits and act as a resource for new families.

SCHOOL PICNIC

Held the last week of school.  Fun activities and games are planned throughout the afternoon for students in grades one through seven to celebrate the end of the school year, food and drink are provided for the children and usually a DJ is present.  Lots of fun for everyone!  Event lasts approximately three hours.

Duties of this committee typically would include:  attending one to two planning meetings, assist with the planning of the activities and games for the picnic, assist with the planning of food and drink, help to organize volunteers, and ideally would be able to assist the day of the picnic.

FUNDRAISING

Fundraising is necessary to provide the funds for the FTC events.  Typically the FTC holds one fundraiser throughout the year.  Past fundraisers included "Football Mania" and "Hoops Mania".

Duties of this committee typically would include:  attending one or more planning sessions, researching for new, innovative ways to raise funds for the FTC, assist with the planning and execution of the fundraiser event.

SCHOOL ASSEMBLIES

The FTC provided the funds for the one or two school assemblies during the school year.  The FTC helps coordinate the assemblies and helps with the set up and execution of assembly if needed.

Duties of this committee would typically include:  attending one to two planning sessions, assisting teachers with researching various school assemblies, possibly contacting appropriate assembly contact person to set up assembly, help with the set-up and execution of assembly if needed.

TEACHER BREAKFASTS

The FTC provides breakfast to faculty and staff twice a year, once at the beginning of the school year and once near the end of the school year.  Breakfast items include doughnuts, bagels, pastries, fruit, etc.  On scheduled day, in AM prior to the start of classes, items are brought in and set up in the teachers' lounge.

Duties of this committee would typically include:  picking up ordered breakfast items from the store, and setting up those items in the teachers' lounge.  No planning meeting needed.

BOX TOPS FOR EDUCATION

The FTC helps with the collection, sorting and redeeming of box tops that are sent into the school.  box Tops are sent in for redemption at least twice during the year.

Duties would typically include:  sorting box tops into bundles of 50, tallying box tops, preparing box tops for  mailing, mailing box tops to appropriate location.  No planning meeting needed.

NATIONAL JUNIOR HONOR SOCIETY RECEPTION

FTC assists serving beverages and snacks at the NJHS reception.  The reception is usually held in May, in the evening.  Event typically lasts two to three hours.

Duties would typically include:  assist with the set-up and clean up of tables, beverages and snacks, assist during the reception by refreshing beverages and snacks.  No planning meeting needed.

PASS THE HAWK

A fun school spirit activity where a replica hawk is passed from one school family to another school family.  Photos are taken and posted in the hallway by the school office.  Each year the "hawk" needs to be prepped for the upcoming school year.

Duties would include:  prepping the hawk by preparing a new base for families to sign, assist with the planning of the "hawk" route, and posting photos in the hallway.  No planning meeting needed.

HALLOWEEN PARADE

The FTC, along with the teachers, coordinates a small Halloween parade, for grades pre-school through three, around the school property.  Held on Halloween Day, in the AM, just after the start of classes.

Duties would typically include:  coordinating parade route, coordinating route and time with teachers.  No planning meeting needed.
